Abstract

The study investigated the effects of subject streaming on students ' perceivedprobability of academic success among 396 ordinary secondary schoolstudents in Tanzania. The data were collected using a motivation to learnscale from Ilala and Moshi districts. The findings indicated that there wasa statistically significant difference in students ' perceived probability ofsuccess between schools and subject streams. The study also showed thatschool and personal variables had significant effects on students ' perceivedprobability of success. The study concludes that subject streaming has asignificant effect on students ' perceived probability of success becauseit mediates students ' perception of success between schools and subjectstreams. The study concludes that subject streaming has a significant effecton students ' perceived probability of success.Keywords: perceived probability of success, subject streaming
