Abstract

AbstractHigh unemployment rate in Kenya has contributed to policy focuson entrepreneurship. In response, universities have incorporatedentrepreneurship in their curricula albeit, to a lesser extent, throughincubation of social entrepreneurs. The objective of this study was todemonstrate how social entrepreneurship skills are nurtured throughincubation centers. A nested case study research approach wasused to select relevant social entrepreneurship projects incubatedat Kenyatta University ' s Chandaria Business Innovation IncubationCentre (KUCBIIC). The study involved literature review and in-depthinterviews with KUCBIIC staff, entrepreneurs, staff and clients ofselected incubation projects. Findings indicated that the incubationhub has enabled development of ideas into unique products whichnot only contribute towards employment but also provide solutionsto various societal challenges.Keywords: entrepreneurship education, incubation, innovation
